Bottom line: savvy travelers with kids can work around the crazy prices, but think twice if you're single or a couple without kids.
* like a college campus with NYC prices
Sweet Jesus the food is way over priced! $19 for a burger? The grounds are nice but go somewhere else for food and drinks.
I have stayed here twice in the past 10 years. It use to be a nice place to stay. Now I consider it a dump. Food is expensive and terrible, pools a r e cloudy looking, the lagoon smells like a sewer, rooms smell and need major updating, bath towels are a grey color not white I don't think they use bleach, staff is rude for the most part, takes forever to get around the property even with boat & tram, dont waste your money going to the spa massage was good but the facility was dirty and not a very relaxing atmosphere. Prior to coming here this time we stayed a week at Grand Hyatt Resort in Kauai that property is simply amazing from comfort to service. I wouldn't waste your money coming here you work to hard for your money spend it where you can enjoy yourself and be treated like a king and queen. It's really too bad they let the property go like this it was once a 5 star.
* even when full, doesn't feel crowded
Cons:
What can I say about this place. I don't think any words can describe how much of a paradise this resort is.
* wise use of Costco and BYO hot pot == no need to eat at outrageously priced on-campus restaurants
* no microwaves
Our wedding was amazing, helped by the friendly and tentative staff at the resort. Swimming with dolphins (in the resort) was also an experience of a life time. We have so many great memories from here. When the time came to leave, it felt like we were leaving a part of our heart at the resort.
* authentic 80s decor
After a whistle top tour, my fiancée and I decided this had to be the place to get married. Two years later we returned for a 10 night stay and the wedding of our dreams. We were blown away by the beauty and vastness of the resort. Even after 10 days we would find different things that caught our attention.
* population is at least 50% little kids. This is actually great if you have kids...every day is a play date!
We then went on to honeymoon elsewhere, but all we wanted was to come back here. One day soon, we will!
Exceptional facility with activities and eye candy galore. Rooms need updating and they are slowly working on it. Food is best obtained off property. Staff are low key but have the aloha.
(Just don't expect the experience to be cheap; It's worth every penny)
* water slides and lagoon with local sea turtles are something special
Pros:
* almost Disney-like level of self containment
* authentic 80s decor
