John was great. Did a private guide trip and asked for an easy in/out dive. He took me to a perfect spot with a giant stride entry and ladder out. A boat dive without the boat. Nice hard coral, eels, and plenty of fish.
My husband and I had two great dives with John. We are both experienced divers, but prefer diving with a local when traveling. John was knowledgeable of the area, safety conscious, and very accommodating. I have a bad back and he did a fantastic job helping me in and out of the water with my gear! He picked two great sites with plenty to look at and was very good about pointing out different species and objects of interest. As someone with narrow ear canals, I also appreciated the smooth and slow ascents and descents. Would definitely dive with John again!
John is not only a fabulous Captain but he is an amazing instructor. He has the ability to help you relax and lose your anxiety. I have had the pleasure of being taught by him and later working with him. You will not find anyone more patient and passionate about diving. I highly recommend him as an instructor.
John is a great and patient instructor. He was able to take a mixed group with a variety of skill ad comfort levels and make each of us comfortable and safe in the water. This was the most fun I've had learning! If you want to get certified on the Big Island, or just have a great guide, John is you man!
We did 4 dives with John during our visit to the big island. They were grey dives and John was very pro and knew all the best dive spots. His gear was great and he made planning a breeze. We would definitely dive with him again on our next trip to kona.
